  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Diane M. Yannick -- A gift from a master storyteller : Reading Mike Boyd’s book is like sitting by his side in a comfy rocking chair and having a nice, long visit. A visit that you don’t want to end. His stories flow from one to the next at a comfortable pace. The many people who shaped his trajectory came to life one page at a time. His oldest brother Jim showed him a life beyond Beaver Valley and allowed him to dream bigger. ( Reviewed in the United States on April 30, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Nancy -- Founding out about the man behind the mask : I throughly enjoyed reading this book. I even to several days to read it so I could absorb all the details that were described. Mr. Boyd is an amazing teacher, I had him English 10 and 12 also for Creative Writing. He truly helped me through high school and learning about the man behind mask was an amazing experience. I’m now even going to school for English and Creative Writing myself. Thanks Mr. Boyd for all you’ve done and an excellent read. ( Reviewed in the United States on May 19, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Tara Turcotte-Leyanna -- Outstanding storytelling : I would have never guessed 20 plus years ago that reading the life story of my high school AP English teacher would be so engaging, but Mike Boyd has always had the ability to engage students, friends, or anyone listening to his stories and he has gracefully and skillfully done exactly that in his memoir. A great author somehow has the ability to connect to their readers without knowing ahead of time who is reading the book, and Mike has done that. As a kid who was gifted AND suffered from psoriasis and who was bullied for both, I found myself engrossed in trying to find out how he became this calm, cool, collected legend at our high school who always had the answers and the life lessons I needed. Additionally, Storytelling itself is as old as language, told by mouth before writing was invented, and Mike Boyd is a master storyteller, making the reader feel as though they were sitting around the fire listening to Dickens or Hemingway. I cannot wait for the next one. ( Reviewed in the United States on June 7, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from burdli -- Great Read : I loved this book! It's not the first literature I've read by someone I've known personally, but it is the best. I found so many things in common, yet many differences. It was thought provoking yet comforting. I will definitely be buying whatever comes next. Mr. Boyd is an excellent writer and an excellent person; I am officially a fan. ( Reviewed in the United States on June 30, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from john morse -- Great Read! : I felt like I was sitting with Mike and he was telling me his story. I have known Mike as a colleague for many years but certainly learned a great deal more about him. Thank you for the great read. Mike. I can't wait for the next book. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from AZ -- A delightful book about a life of services to others : This book crescendoes from a childhood bracketed by the 60s and 70s and young adulthood in the 80s to the present time with all the unknowns and fears of "figuring out what you're supposed with your life". It builds on the importance of family support while learning what it means to find purpose. The author demonstrates through a very relatable narrative of real life experiences that a life of serving others through teaching brings dividends. ( Reviewed in the United States on May 29, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from karen williams -- A great read. : Reading the book was a great trip through Mike's life-growing up, through his education and his career. The stories about students and teaching allow everyone to see themselves through one of the characters he writes about. As a coworker of Mike's I recognized many stories, students and staff members. Reading the book was like taking a trip down memory lane-reliving some of my teaching experiences only written more eloquently than I could have done myself. I enjoyed the flow of the book and would encourage others to read it. Go get a copy yourself! ( Reviewed in the United States on May 11, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Amy Reed -- A tremendous read! : Mike is a master storyteller. I loved this book and could not put it down. Mike takes us on a sojourn of his childhood thru adolescence and into adulthood. As I taught school for a long time, I could empathize with some of his concerns about curriculum, etc. I wasn’t sure if teaching was right for me, but I think we both found our niche. If you haven’t read his book yet, you need to get it as soon as possible. It’s a wonderful read and I am patiently waiting for book number two. ( Reviewed in the United States on June 8, 2021 )
